The apology
At 1:13 a.m., the message you waited for finally arrives.
Think of the one you once rehearsed in your head. Do not type the name. The page does not need the story.
What needed naming?
What did you want “sorry” to give back?
If the words are perfect
The message says exactly what you once needed it to say.
No excuses. No “if I hurt you”. No request that you comfort them afterwards.
1:13 AM“I know what I did. I know what it cost you. I was wrong. You did not imagine it, and you did not deserve it.”
If the words are perfect but nothing changes
A month later, they do the same thing again.
They apologise beautifully. Then repeat the same pattern a month later.
If the words never come but the person changes
Now delete the apology from history. The person changes anyway.
Now take the apology away completely
If they never admit what happened, does that change what you know happened?
What did you actually want the apology to give you?
Take one sentence with you
The line you kept
Keep the sentence only while it remains true. The apology no longer controls every exit.
